Through NFL week 2 - 2008

Definitely a wild second week to the season. Biggest lesson to learn from is how to hold on to a lead through a full 4 quarters. On Sunday we saw all most the entire NFC North along with Denver blow 4th quarter leads. Only Green Bay and Denver managed to hang on, and Denver needed some some help from the refs to accomplish that.

Meanwhile could it be shaping up to be more difficult to earn a playoff spot in the NFC this year than in the AFC? The AFC has been the dominant conference of the decade, winning 6 of 8 Super Bowls, and it has been common to see a 10-6 team not make the playoffs (Cleveland last year). So far in '08 both conferences sport 5 teams that have started the season undefeated, but the NFC has seven teams with a .500 record to the AFC's four. Yes it is still quite early, but it looks unlikely that the NFC which has seen four 9-7 teams and even one 8-8 team make the playoffs in the last two years will have any team reach the playoffs with a record worse than 10-6 in 2008.

Our Pick Six smoked the Vegas Line last week, going 5-1 and netting some great profit. The picks are out, and although the odds aren't as hot as they were last week, overall the confidence rating of picks is higher. We are calling it a neutral week 3. If you don't have a membership it's not too late to pick up a weekly or season subscription. The weekly subscriptions are getting auctioned for pretty cheap, don't miss out on another winning week with ITN!

RK Team Record WG Notes
1 Steelers 2-0 26.15 Don't let the weather dampen your thoughts on this team, the numbers know they are for real.
2 Packers 2-0 25.63 There were many teams last Sunday that lost big leads, the Packers showed some metal by not surrendering on the road.
3 Bills 2-0 23.32 We'd like to see the running game step up a little before we get too head over heels for Buffalo.
4 Broncos 2-0 23.09 41% of Denver fans say they "screamed like Howard Dean" when they won the game, another 19% said they need new underwear.
5 Titans 2-0 23.02 This team just needs a quarterback who won't lose the game for them, and Collins got off to a good start with that on Sunday.
6 Giants 2-0 23.01 The numbers have been slow to believe in the Giants, but that seems to be a quickly fading trend.
7 Cardinals 2-0 22.37 Nothing ho-hum about that win, even against Miami. Will have a chance to prove to the rest of the nation they are for real on Sunday.
8 Patriots 2-0 22.13 Some of the flash and pizzazz may be gone, but the steady addition to the W column has yet to change.
9 Panthers 2-0 20.48 Quite a few teams could learn a little from studying Carolina on how to play a 'complete 60 minute game.'
10 Cowboys 2-0 19.29 Hmm, should Dallas fans be happy they are 2-0 while not playing their best football, or concerned?
11 Eagles 1-1 17.68 We got the feeling they got caught up in the shootout and didn't play their game. We'll know for sure after Pittsburgh comes to town.
12 Buccaneers 1-1 16.77 Glad they got that win under their belt. Their next 4 opponents are a combined 7-1.
13 Ravens 1-0 16.56 Even though they didn't get to play Sunday, we haven't forgotten how well they played in week 1.
14 Redskins 1-1 16.55 The offense figured some things out against New Orleans, and we're not counting them out of the division race just yet.
15 Raiders 1-1 16.15  The running game made some strides, but they are going to need both parts of the offense working well to keep winning.
16 Bears 1-1 16.09 They let one big opportunity go on Sunday, now they need to make sure they don't let it happen at home.
17 49ers 1-1 16.01 While much of the focus in on O'sullivan, we're much more concerned about the run defense.
18 Jets 1-1 15.82 Despite all the moves in the offseason, the offense is still holding this team back from being a contender.
19 Falcons 1-1 14.14 There are a few teams that can win almost solely with their running game. The Falcon defense doesn't allow this team to be one of them.
20 Saints 1-1 13.51 The New Orleans faithful have to be scratching their heads and wondering if it really is that hard to run the ball with Bush and McCallister.
21 Colts 1-1 12.94 We think the Indianapolis season officially started in the second half at Minnesota.
22 Vikings 0-2 6.31 Things look great on offense until they reach the red zone, and that is where they are going to need the passing game to step it up.
23 Chargers 0-2 5.89 99% of San Diego fans are still sitting on the coach wondering what in the world just happened.
24 Dolphins 0-2 4.84 The running game looks like it is playing in mud instead of turf.
25 Rams 0-2 4.18 Sure the offense has gone up against 2 great defenses, but numbers like that point more serious problems.
26 Jaguars 0-2 3.78 Turnovers are putting this team in an early hole in one of the toughest divisions.
27 Browns 0-2 3.25 We're not sure Cleveland has what it takes to survive their tough early season schedule.
28 Seahawks 0-2 3.21 The passing game on both sides of the ball is killing this team quickly.
29 Lions 0-2 2.44 They have drama, action, highs, lows, and comebacks. Everything except for W's.
30 Texans 0-1 2.26 We're hoping for the best for Houston, its fans, and its stadium.
31 Bengals 0-2 2.02 The offense is just Ughh, and they really don't have any excuses for it.
32 Chiefs 0-2 2.01 The run defense has made an early move to the 'Halloween Defense' of running in circles while yelling 'Boo!' at opposing offenses

Pick Six Betting Details for NFL week 2

Sweetness. When we saw the odds come out last Monday evening we knew our Pick Six for NFL week 2 was going to have a great chance at pulling in a profit. The public misconception on the Oakland and Tennessee games was blatant to our system and we made sure the Pick Six took advantage of it. The 3-0 result from those 2 games alone was enough to guarantee profit for the week.

Looking ahead to NFL week 3 we don't want to get overly excited over the results of this week. Normally week 3 is one of the better early season weeks to bet on, but as always we will have to see how the odds-makers and public view things before we will know for sure. We are working hard to get our picks out early on Tuesday this week, so that our Members can make full use of any early in the week odds. If you want to read up on odds and how public opinion can swing games, we suggest you read through the posts on our affiliated blog, 'A bettor wager'.

But the power of the system already shows up in the Pick Six, where we went a nice 4-2 and picked up profit to start the season. From here on out the picks will only get better as each team gets more games under their belt. We hope you have been doing your reading on how to make it a winning season in 2008!
